Today I will talk about a book that
I had to read at school when I was in the fourth grade. This book is called “Tengo
miedo torero” and was written by Pedro Lemebel. The story is set in Chile in
1986 and deals with various topics such as homosexuality, the attack on Augusto
Pinochet, inequality in Chile, among others. Its main characters are "La
loca del Frente", a homosexual older than 40 with few resources and
Carlos, a university student and member of the patriotic front Manuel
Rodríguez. La loca del frente helps Carlos, not knowing what his plans are and,
as the story progresses, a romantic relationship develops between them. I think
that the topics covered in this book are not usually covered much in schools,
that is why I liked this book since it is not like the common books that one
usually read in school, teachers generally choose more classic and boring
books, however this was the exception. I found this book very interesting and
entertaining; it gave us another look at these issues and allowed us to develop
a more critical vision. I honestly think it is a good book.
